European Farmers and Foresters Involved for Contributing to an Intelligent Energy Network towards the target of 20% reduction in fuel consumption
EFFICIENT20 is an Intelligent Energy project, it will be implemented from May 2010 to April 2013.
EFFICIENT20 is designed to encourage farmers and foresters to contribute to reaching the target set by the European Union of 20% energy savings compared to the projections by 2020. The focus is put on fuel oil used in farming machinery, which represents more than 50% of the energy consumed in agriculture.
EFFICIENT20 aims at creating a European Network dedicated to fuel savings in the agriculture and forestry sector. In order to develop a bottom-up approach, the following actions will be led at local level, in the nine countries of the Consortium partners:
- Data on fuel consumption will be collected from expert field tests and directly from farmers in order to fill the gaps in references.
- Pilot groups of farmers or foresters will commit themselves to monitor and reduce their fuel consumption by 20% during the project.
- Surveys will increase knowledge about how farmers and foresters understand and use their machinery and particularly fuel consumption monitoring devices.
